You Ask Me To Explain, Then

words slip
out a screen door,
and useless coins
clink through a grate,
as I barter answers for questions, how

to squeeze the universe
into a handful of phrases and stab it
with a pushpin. Do you think
something straight can fit
around a sphere? I teach you

to waltz. You wear combat boots.
The voice cannot translate:
there is beauty in tangles - Sky's breath

before first thunder, the flexing heart bound
in its pocket. Flushed petals
bundled into a cup
of thirst. Drinking rivers. Eating

the sun. Filling our lungs
with the gasp of leaves. The hips blossoming
to hold a seed, an egg,
an ocean.
